Following a conversation with my colleague one day about Singapore’s slangs of ‘lor’ and ‘leh’
^^^^^^
He: I don’t understand why such slang exists in Singapore
Me: well, it is part of the local culture and does represent punctuation marks of one sentence in a certain way.
He: oh really?? U know what happen?
Me: what?
This is what happened. He is talking to friend X one day about what X has been doing.
He: What have you been doing?
X: study lor
He: woah…that is impressive!
X: ???
He: I mean do u get to work in any of the Law firms?
X: SIAO AH? I never study Law how to work in Law firm????
He: (confused) but I thought you just say you study law (lor)??
X: ….
^^^^^^
hehe…..never know such little misunderstanding can occur!! So be careful next time when speaking to non-singaporean!
