Words

Alas…words are funny creatures sometimes. A word that is so innocent and simple and yet it can trigger series of misunderstanding.

The 1st incident was when my brother is coming to Singapore. He didn’t inform me that he is coming today. But he insisted that he told me.

On msn:

Him: U know I’m coming today right?
Me: Ah? You told me you coming meh?
Him: Yes, I did. Remember I ask you about where to eat in Spore?
Me: Yeah, but that does not mean you are coming! That question could mean you are asking for a friend, or just to keep a note
Him: Neh, I wouldn’t waste time on asking that question, unless I’m coming to Spore
Me: Oh yeah, as if I can read your mind.

Great. Expect me to read and think like him. Oh gosh…how can like that? He say he wouldn’t waste time, but my personal opinion is that, he is wasting even more time by beating round the bush when eventually no message is spread across!

^^^^^^

The 2nd incident involved me and my baby. We are preparing for our trip to one country. I wanted him to buy earplugs as I know he is a light sleeper and would wake up at any slightest noise. The hotel we are staying would be near night clubs so I think there would be very noisy.

Me: come, we go buy earplugs, the next on the shopping list.
Him: but very funny leh
Me: no ah, u are such a light sleeper, better buy if not u can’t zzz
Him: omg, we are buying so much for this trip, even earplugs! When I go overseas, the lowest hotel grade I’ve stayed is 4 star leh! Now staying in budget hotel…
Me: ok…you are rich wat, dat y u stayed in 4 star!
Him: No…that is not wat I mean!
Me: if not then what?
Him: I just say I found strange
Me: ….

Eventually he did apologised to me and said that was just a comment. But somehow I felt disappointed. To me, it is not just a comment, but rather looking down on budget hotels where he used to stay in 4 star hotels. It is like a downgrade. Look like my efforts are all in vain, where I keep looking at maps and try to look for hotels that are not too expensive, and yet near to places we want to visits. Felt so sien at one point.

He told me he has never stayed in budget hotels before, so he don’t know what to expect. Well, I tot he would know. I thought the word Budget would explain it all. Alamak…need to work out the communication. Alas…Words, that can cause trouble here and there.

I’m still feeling a bit sore now but why I’m still like that despite him apologise profusely already?

The wonders of Chinese medication

Posted on January 28th, 2008 by GracyBee.

Haven’t been feeling superb for the last 1 week. On and off, either I felt very sleepy and tired, having headache or I would have funny feeling in my stomach. So much to the extent, my baby noticed how tired I was whenever we were out. He insisted of me taking medication but I resisted. Though I had flu/cold symptons, but somehow I know it is not cold. I used to take panadol when I faced such and I ended up feeling worse than before.

Yesterday the headache came again and I was so tired that I went for afternoon nap: that is RARE. And today the same when I went to work. Baby was with me and his comforting hugs during the journey to work soothed me for a while.

In the end, I think it is time for me to see the doc, is sinseh…..

Diagnosis: breathlessness, heatiness, indisgestion that resulted in poor zzz and headache.

Phew……after medication, felt slighty better……Yeah! Not that I don’t have faith in western medication, but I trusted chinese medication more as they are less damaging to health. They are ok for minor illness, but for major one…then I would opt for western one.

For now, kudos to chinese med!

The Kids

Today while conversating with the maid at home, I found out something. The 3 kids at home are behaving quite badly at home, each demanding individual attention and some unreasonable requests from her.

I was surprised to hear that, as I believe that there is unconditional love from their parents. However, when I think back, perhaps that is not so. It is not that the parents don’t love them, but maybe more of the kids think that they are not loved enough.

Both parents are working full time. When they are at home, is always homework, homework, homework. and then scolding scolding scolding. Well, the kids are not so motivated to do homework by themselves, and somehow try to get their way out. Why? they prefer computer games. Ah..children.

After my 6 months staying here, I observed how it was like at home. Other than the above, the parents would focus more on the youngest child. It is not so much like a peace at home to spend time with children etc. Hence, i guess they make use of materialistic approach in order to compensate for the lack of time spent.

Yeah, I guess it has to be so, but the kids don’t like that. They have enough freedom their parents have given them, they have enough games and time to spend at home. But I guess what they yearn is love, care and hugs from the people they love. They want someone to talk to, joke with and laugh with. In simplier term, they want constant reminder that they are well loved and don’t feel so vulnerable.

Now that, I envy them that they are exposed to many things that I don’t experience when I was their age. But I also pity them that, while they are exposed to so many things, they are denied of something that we used to have, that is one parent are always at home to be with them.

Now I guess I would try to spend time with them during my off days. Juz have to keep trying, amid their occassional arguments.

Mashed potato

My niece loves mashed potato. Being a fan myself, I decided 2 weeks ago, that I bought a ready made one. It took us just 15 min to prepare everything, and on top of the gravy I have made from chicken stock, it tasted heavenly.

^^^^^^

Today, I decided to make it myself, and my goal is to get the 3 of them involved and let them spend less time on TV and computer. I got my recipe from www.kuali.com
Well, the plan did work and the 3 of them, in the midst of little arguments, worked well together. Finally after one hour, it is ready.

Apparently, the gravy this time is not as rich due to not enough powder and the texture of potato not that smooth as din spend time to mash.

The remainder

After the whole thing and ate some, we all decided that, it is easier to buy the ready made one….hahah……..

now my stomach don’t feel good, ngek ngek…….. green tea to the rescue!

Midnight Shift

Posted on August 18th, 2007 by GracyBee.

Today, I started my very 1st midnight shift. In the aviation industry where it is 24/7, some staffs would be rotated to do the shift.

On the whole, it is different from the usual rush hours with passengers checking in, arriving and departing. It is more towards the admin work that couldn’t be done during rush hours and to stand by for emergencies. So I have done that, and at 4am, I’m starting to check in the 1st flight of the day.

And when everybody else is coming to work, I’m going home!! Frankly, I felt weird about that, and I felt more tired than usual with all my body clock timing messed up. Realise I ‘m more to the morning person than the midnight person….I don mind supper but not working!! Lucky this shift only come once a month!

This year is different because it would be shown on the floating platform in Marina Bay for the 1st time, instead of the usual National Stadium. I always look forward for the parade, but alas…today I’m working afternoon shift, so can’t watch, but My samsung DVD recorder is to the rescue! So it will be doing the recording today.

Yup yup, Happy 42nd Birthday Singapore!

Northpoint

I have not seen N for a month as I was doing my training. Today is going to be my last office hours timing, both of us decided to meet today in Northpoint.

It has been a long while I last took bus 853 to Yishun. It was quite refreshing ride. See, I’m a bus person. I like to take bus to anywhere to enjoy the scenery along the way. The places along the 853 ride didn’t change much, which I’m quite pleased as I can recount the past why and how I was there ages ago.

N & I met and we chat into the afternoon about what happen during work and life. Geez, been such a long time since I did that…hehe….go window shopping with a friend etc…..

Tomorrow is the start of shifts………….wish me luck! 8)

Check In

Posted on August 4th, 2007 by GracyBee.
Categories: Everyday life.

I have been doing check in training course for the 1 mth. So far while in class I was ok with it, get myself familiar with the system and 90% of the theory.

Today we had a mock up session of a typical check in. Alas..in so many years I have been travelling and standing behind the check in counter, I thought it was a whole easy process that took only few min. Now I found myself sitting behind a counter, a mock one, and gosh…..I felt so nervous! Now I know it is not an easy process after all because there are so much to do in that few min…..

Good thing is that, there are a lot to learn and I get to know about the immigrations etc. So our role is still important because what we are doing involves the immigration issues too. So gotta do my best on Monday when I start to my OJT!

After class today, F and me went back to the airport with S to celebrate his b’day in Fish & Co as we are not able to attend his b’day chalet next Sat. Had great food and time there. YUM YUM!!!
