Lost N Found!!

Phew, what a hectic period at work! Don know why, been feeling tired at work lately. Thus, I was looking forward for my 3 days break and I have managed to arrange to meet my primary school friends I have not seen for 15 years!!

I felt apprehensive, frankly speaking. Like would I recognise them? How much they have changed? Will that 15 year long gap make any difference to the friendship etc etc

I met KW 1st in Orchard MRT. I tell you, no matter how much the person changes, there is still a bit of him that remind me of the then him. hahah…..well, he recognised me 1st!! Then we went to Far East Plaza to meet JH to have Korean cuisine, SU restaurant, as recommended by E.

Oh gosh, it was a wonderful feeling to see old friends again. It was like yesterday I last seen them and we just get on to talk like old times. We caught up with each other’s activities and talked about old memories. Each of us have their own portion of memories and after we shared with each other, it struck to me: ‘oh yah ho…..i nearly forgot!’ When we mentioned names of the people we remembered, we were: yes yes, there is such a person! don noe how they are now!’ ahaha…conversations went on~ What are the names that sprang out? Dengli, Caiyun, Yujiao, Shanshan, Pauline, Qiye, Guihao, Guiqi, Liping, Liyuan, Lairong, Pinyao, Rongfeng, Lianyu, and few others. Where are all of you?

Then my dear old old best friend, E came to meet us in Coffee Bean in Paragon. We finally found each other via friendster. Well, we all found each other thru friendster!! Though it was only for 2 hours we meet, I felt so happy to see her again.

During our time in Primary school, there is no such thing as Internet. Thus, to keep in contact, we exchanged telephones numbers and addresses that time. However that can get obsolete and they get changed and we not informed. Thus, I’m really grateful to the internet and friendster to find our friends back again.

Had a great time, guys! Must meet again next time!!

The Kids

Today while conversating with the maid at home, I found out something. The 3 kids at home are behaving quite badly at home, each demanding individual attention and some unreasonable requests from her.

I was surprised to hear that, as I believe that there is unconditional love from their parents. However, when I think back, perhaps that is not so. It is not that the parents don’t love them, but maybe more of the kids think that they are not loved enough.

Both parents are working full time. When they are at home, is always homework, homework, homework. and then scolding scolding scolding. Well, the kids are not so motivated to do homework by themselves, and somehow try to get their way out. Why? they prefer computer games. Ah..children.

After my 6 months staying here, I observed how it was like at home. Other than the above, the parents would focus more on the youngest child. It is not so much like a peace at home to spend time with children etc. Hence, i guess they make use of materialistic approach in order to compensate for the lack of time spent.

Yeah, I guess it has to be so, but the kids don’t like that. They have enough freedom their parents have given them, they have enough games and time to spend at home. But I guess what they yearn is love, care and hugs from the people they love. They want someone to talk to, joke with and laugh with. In simplier term, they want constant reminder that they are well loved and don’t feel so vulnerable.

Now that, I envy them that they are exposed to many things that I don’t experience when I was their age. But I also pity them that, while they are exposed to so many things, they are denied of something that we used to have, that is one parent are always at home to be with them.

Now I guess I would try to spend time with them during my off days. Juz have to keep trying, amid their occassional arguments.

Phuket Air crash

It happened 2 nights ago.

It is rather a sad news as I don’t really expect such incident to have happened at all. Well, it did happened, and of course, this affected our line of work. 3 flights to Phuket were cancelled and hundreds of passengers were stranded. I was at the reception when passengers keep coming back to me and ask the same question: what are we supposed to do now? what is going on? what happened? can we still go to Phuket?

The airline eventually did something for them, and provided hotel accommodations for all. The next day, they chartered a flight for them. While they did managed to go ahead with their holidays, in my heart, I still wish peace for the dead.

Rest in Peace.

Tremors!!

Oh my god.

Strong earthquake, 7.9 on the ritcher scale that hit southern Sumatra. The tremors can be felt at home. But I was not at home! I was in my aunt’ s place not far away and enjoying dinner and tv serials when my niece called to say there was an earthquake. Ah…….

I was shocked to hear that because I don’t feel anything!! I quickly rush home and hear their story of bamboo sticks shaking etc. Then it came out from the news that it was from Indonesia and was affecting Jakarta too. Ah….even more shock because my best friend, J was in Indonesia at the moment for holidays! I quickly messaged him and he was affected by it. So I only received his message like 3 hours after. Thank god he is safe.

Phew, all is well for now. But we can only see the damage done the next day in the news.

Mashed potato

My niece loves mashed potato. Being a fan myself, I decided 2 weeks ago, that I bought a ready made one. It took us just 15 min to prepare everything, and on top of the gravy I have made from chicken stock, it tasted heavenly.

^^^^^^

Today, I decided to make it myself, and my goal is to get the 3 of them involved and let them spend less time on TV and computer. I got my recipe from www.kuali.com
Well, the plan did work and the 3 of them, in the midst of little arguments, worked well together. Finally after one hour, it is ready.

Apparently, the gravy this time is not as rich due to not enough powder and the texture of potato not that smooth as din spend time to mash.

The remainder

After the whole thing and ate some, we all decided that, it is easier to buy the ready made one….hahah……..

now my stomach don’t feel good, ngek ngek…….. green tea to the rescue!

Peanut Butter

Oh gosh!! It has been a while since I discovered this, and I gotta write about this!!

One day, I was craving for peanut butter and decided to buy one from Shop N Save near the house. As I was walking down the aisle, the own brand one came to my attention. Being a budget me, I decided to buy this. Well, I thought, quality should be ok compared to the branded one. When I was in the UK, I used to buy the own Sainburys or Asda brand’s peanut butter and they tasted gorgeous. So this one should be ok too.

the innocent looking peanut butter

^^^^^^

For some odd reason, I had decided to look at the ingredients of the peanut butter.

This is what I found.

dsc06458a.jpg

Yeah, the peanut butter that is made of peanuts

DUH!!!! Peanut butter of course is made up of peanuts!!! Why the reminder?? I understand this message is put across to those who are allergic to peanuts. But for peanut butter?!

I was so amused about this that, I couldn’t help grinning about it everytime I reached out for it for my breakfast. hahah…what a good way to cheer up my day! 8)

PS: too bad it don’t taste as great.

Midnight Shift

Posted on August 18th, 2007 by GracyBee.
Categories: Everyday life.

Today, I started my very 1st midnight shift. In the aviation industry where it is 24/7, some staffs would be rotated to do the shift.

On the whole, it is different from the usual rush hours with passengers checking in, arriving and departing. It is more towards the admin work that couldn’t be done during rush hours and to stand by for emergencies. So I have done that, and at 4am, I’m starting to check in the 1st flight of the day.

And when everybody else is coming to work, I’m going home!! Frankly, I felt weird about that, and I felt more tired than usual with all my body clock timing messed up. Realise I ‘m more to the morning person than the midnight person….I don mind supper but not working!! Lucky this shift only come once a month!

The fastest in the world

Recently, there has been a research that found out that Singaporean walk the fastest in the world. Initially, I was quite amused and surprised with the outcome. I mean, why this type of research exist!!

^^^^^^

Anyway, why I’m writing this today come down from a conversation from a colleague from another department. He is from China and just started work recently. He lives not far from me. A few times, we were in the company bus but didn’t acknowledge each other. However for two mornings straight, we started work the same time.

^^^^^^

Today, we finally break the ice between us and chat a bit. One of the questions I asked him is that how he is adapting to the new environment. He is coping ok but need some time to get used to the environment. That I agreed. Then he mentioned something abt the research on Singaporean walk fastest in the world.

He said that the pace here is a lot faster than in Jiangsu, the province where he come from, and so he added:

He: Yeah, I think I need to catch up a bit with the speed.
Me: Oh…I didn’t really notice the pace maybe because I have been here for a while.
He: Yeah…compared to China, it is a lot faster. And I also notice that the ants in Singapore crawls faster than in China!!!
Me: !!!?!!

He: yeah! It’s is true!! The type in China really din crawl fast!!
